hp simplesave 1 terabyte exeternal hard drive Blinking?

I bought this external hdd about two years ago. Just recently,however,this device started to act very peculiar.It won't show up on underneath My computer or in my device manager and the HDD itself has a blue light that just keeps blinking furiously. Any solutions??
Arnak how would I go about installing the drive as a second drive considering it needs an external power supply? Also do you have a link to a video or instructions on how to install a second drive to a pc?

Hi,

Remove the drive from the enclosure and fit it into the pc as a second drive and see if it works that way.

Or, buy an external usb caddy and use that with the drive.

Just make sure you get the correct caddy for your drive, it is most likely a 3.5" in IDE or SATA.

I have a WinXP and I use it to run all my repairs when working on hard drives and other Misc. stuff. At present I cant mount this HP SimpleSave 1TB the hard drive inside is a Western Digital. I thought it was a bad USB 2 cord replaced that still did not mount then I removed the HD from the case and placed it in an external Hard Drive Dock. Reasons for this are HP states that either the USB or the power cord might be bad so that eliminates that part.

So either the partition is bad or it needs to be reformatted? Lastly HP has a virtual CD with the hard drive so as to mount it and use it for backing up photos and music and such and then hard drive should mount all thatâs mounting is the Virtual CD without the HP info or logo.

Any ideas would be welcomed as the Data on the hard drive are some very important photos for a friend and she would like them back or she goes to Alaska again does the same things all over again.
It does spin up yet it sounds like a tire with a flat going "thump. thump. thump .....as it spins"

now you are using a dock
can you hear the hdd spinning?
if no then drive is bin food
you can have a look in disk management
cannot remember if you
right click computer (icon)
and select manage
then disk management
or have to go through control panel
if its there it will show up as ,,,Disk 1
Disk 0 will be yours if you have 2 disks then it will be Disk 2
