Can I save xbox 360 games to an external Hard Drive?

I was talking to my friend in a game in call of duty and he was telling me how he has all of his games saved on an external hard drive and that as we were speaking his game was on his hardrive and playing off of it and he didnt have the call of duty game in the disk tray. He said he has his call of duties his gta games forza and all of that on his hard drive and that his disk tray never has a disk in it. Is there any way that i can do this with my xbox? Just buy tha hard drive amd than not have to worry about actual game disks? Cause my disk tray sometimes wont open so i was wondering if this was true or not

As allen said the only way to do what he is claiming to do is to have a jtagged xbox. And as soon as you connect a jtag to the internet, microsoft gets alerted and they ban your console. You can install a game to your hard drive however the disk is needed to actually start the game. It can help some games play better and save wear and tear on the disk and disk drive.

Are there any external hard drives that anyone uses for their xbox that is not an official xbox 360 hard drive but still works? I need one. I don't want
to get ripped off and pay for an official hard drive though.

No non-360 hard drive will work.

360's use certain file types that other hard drives can't recognize.

And if you don't believe me, ask yourself how many people you've seen using a different type of hard drive. None.
