Western Digital 800 hard drive cant be found in desktop?
Jordan Car
I have a West Digital 80GB hard drive given to me by my friend since his motherboard died on him and he has to go overseas. Before his motherboard died he uses the HD as a slave and it works fine before.I tried it on my computer and planned to use it as a slave too it doesn't appear in 'My Computer'.
I unplugged and plugged it again and check it on the BIOS it was detected. But when i got to the desktop it's not detected. Any ideas what might be the problem and any solutions for it??
Answer
if drive is ok in BIOS and no abnormal sound during boot.
there are many way to check it.
i. boot your system in normal with both HDDs and Right click on My computer>Manage>Device Manager>Disk Drives>(if both hdd shown in the list)>right click on your WD 80 Gb>properties>Volume>Click on Populate..
if drive letter shown in populate result.your hdd may have been save and you can access these drives
and also can format it.. OR.....
ii. Unplug your main hard drive, only plug in WD 80gb and boot from a bootable CD that have partition software, format it from any partition software like DM or Partition magic or DOS else.
