I have a dell latitude d600 running xp home and i bought a toshiba 250gb external hard drive and it wouldn't work and said something about the hub? i don't know it was a long time ago.
so my hard drive crashed and i got a new internal drive but w/ only 10 more gb.
i want to buy a new computer but i really just want to get:

Is it connected by eSATA or USB.
if connected by eSATA then you need to Partition the External HDD.
don't buy from best buy just purchase from www.newegg.com

it says it's for SATA hard drives, i'm just not sure it's a SATA?

The seagate is not SATA - its USB interface.
The other one is eSATA (external SATA) and USB.
They will both work on a standard PC with USB ports.
The second one has the option of working with eSATA - buy your computer must have an eSATA port to use that.
