I am really wanting a high definition DVD player with USB ports. However, having problem understanding if I can plug my external hard drive containing all of my movies into DVD player using USB cord to watch the movies I have on my external hard drive. Is this possible, and what high definition DVD player would allow me to do this at an affordable price?

Buy a Sony Playstation PS3. For $399, you can have the best Blu-Ray player out. It may let you copy from your Ext HD to the Playstation's internal HD (40GB or 80GB). Then you can play the movies. If the Playstation can't, nothing else will either. It's your best bet.

Yes, high definition movies in 720p and 1080p will work fine over a usb connection, and no external hard drives don't use hdmi port, that's only for video and audio connection. Some external hard drives use a eSATA connection, which is much faster than usb, but that is not required to watch blu-ray movies. If anything, you should be more worried about having enough computing power to watch bluray movies rather than worry about the usb bandwidth limit. make sure you have at least a dual core at 2ghz, with an nvidia or ati graphics card, not an intel integrated graphics.
