I bought the WD 2500JB (250gb) hd more than 4 years ago, and I had it on my old PC. But now I bought a new pc and I wanted to install it. (i do not have the cd that it came with)
How should I go about doing this? I know how to place it in, ( i make the second hd a slave rite?) but it is just after that I do not know what to do exactly. After the installation will I need to do any configuration to my computer in Bios? or any where else.
My computer specs: Hp Pavilion p7t Windows 7 (64-bit)
Intel Core i3 3.1 GHz
4GB memory
750GB hard drive

The old hard drive is an old fashioned 40-pin IDE drive. I would assume the drive in the Core i3 system is a SATA type drive. If the machine has IDE connectors (it is quite likely that it doesn't - the specs on HP's site dont list any IDE connectivity). You have to set the jumpers to single drive as per http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/931/~/specifications-for-the-250-gb-special-edition-eide-drive-(model-wd2500jb , find an IDE cable and plug it in, then connect an internal power cable to it. The BIOS should automatically detect the drive.

Is there a difference between ATA and SATA desktop hard drive?

I am trying to find a new hard drive for my desktop. It is an older computer and it has a 20GB ATA-133 hard drive. I was just wandering if there is a difference between and ATA, SATA, and PATA types of hard drives?

ATA stands for Advanced Technology Attachment. There are 2 types of ATA- SATA and PATA. PATA is usually refered to IDE. Today, most of us refer ATA drives as PATA (IDE) drives.
SATA = Serial ATA
PATA = Parallel ATA.
Technically, SATA and PATA (IDE) are in the same ATA family.
In most cases, ATA is usually referred to IDE or PATA, but usually not SATA.
If your computer has SATA connectors, then you are able to use SATA drives. If not, IDE (PATA or ATA) is your only hope.
