How to make iTunes recognize music on external hard drive?

Recently my computer was running out of memory so i decided to buy an external hard drive. I copy pasted all my music into it and added the folders into the iTunes library. However, whenever i go to iTunes and click on the songs it cannot locate them, thus giving me more work.

Is there anyway i can make itunes locate it? I went to preferences and set it on the external hard drive but still no luck?

A hard drive will help you with disk space, but not with memory.

To get music to show up in iTunes:
From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:

* Mac
o Add to Library
* Windows
o Add Folder to Library

Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add

How to i recover my external hard drive files if i accidentally reformatted it on my mac?

i was using my maxtor external hard drive on my mac book pro. i clicked something and before i knew it, i got a pop up that said my hard drive was being reformatted. now, when i try to open my hard drive, it appears empty. are all my files gone? any help would be GREATLY appreciated; i'd really like to get those files back :-/

you can use asoftech photo recover pro. However, it runs under Windows, so you may need to use computer which has Windows OS to recover your files from external HDD.
