I am looking for an external hardrive to hook to my dish network reciever. I will be transferring my shows from one reciever to another. They told me to go to the website but it doesn't sell any there- it just gave guidelines. These are the guidelines::
While most major manufacturers' external hard drives are compatible with DISH DVRs, keep in mind the following guidelines when purchasing an external hard drive:
The external hard drive storage capacity for compatibility with ViP 211, 211k and 411 receivers should be between 50GB and 1TB.
The external hard drive storage capacity for compatibility with ViP 612, 622, 722, 722k and 922 receivers should be between 50GB and 2TB.
The external hard drive must have its own power supply.
The external hard drive must support USB 2.0.
The external hard drive must not use flash memory and should only be a single-hard disk drive.

Anyone know where i can either find one of the two of these or what i need to do to get one? They told me just to walk into Wal-Mart with the requirements but im not too sure that the Wal-Mart employees will really grasp what i need. Any suggestions on what to do or any links to get these from a reputable retailer such as Wal-Mart, Best buy, ETC?

Honestly, almost any external hard drive that has a USB 2.0 or better interface will work. Dish only tested those 2 models - which are now a few years old. If anything the drives in stores today will just be faster.
The larger desktop external drives will come with their own power supply, and support USB 2.0 (some now support USB 3.0, which is backwards compatible.) So buy one of these. Current sizes range from 500GB to 3TB.

No. That is a 3.5" desktop drive, and won't even come close to fitting. You need a 2.5" drive. This is the highest capacity drive that will definitely fit (9.5mm thick):

Western Digital makes a 1TB laptop drive, but it is 12.5mm thick. Most laptops only accept a drive 9.5mm thick. I'm not sure about the Macbook Pro. You'd either have to measure, or contact Apple to ask.
