Why isn't my Western Digital external hard drive working on my desktop?
Tony
It worked the first time I connected it. BTW, I have a mac.
Answer
For some reason it always works the first time on a mac.
The hard drive is formatted as 'NTFS', meaning the mac cannot read it.
You either need to reformat it, which i suggest, or download Paragon's NTFS for Mac plugin which costs $40.
To reformat it, go into disk utility.
Select your portable hard drive and go to the erase tab.
Change the volume format to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Name it and click erase, wait while it does it's thing and you are good to go! Make sure to back-up your files because it will erase your hard drive.
Hope this works, email me for any problems with it.
