Will this USB - DC Cable work on my External Hard Drive?

I recently got a new External Hard Drive (Listed Below). In order for the Hard Drive to operate, it is required to be plugged into an outlet. This is fine, but keeps me from being 100% mobile. I was looking at getting a USB - DC cable to solve this problem, but I am unsure if it will work for sure and was hoping that maybe someone out there has tried this, or has knowledge of this.

No that cable will not work, 3.5" hard drives require +5 and +12 positive to work, that cable only provides +5V so you will not be able to get the drive to spin up. If you want to be completely mobile you will have to get a 2.5" external drive as those can be bus powered via USB.

the external hard drive is Western Digital My Passport Essential 160GB Hard Drive and it came with a USB 2.0 cable that's got one end like a very small tiny skinny pins that's very flat but unfortunately the cable is very short for me, which kind of USB cable is this exactly? it sort of looks like the cable that would connect to a PS3 controller.
i'm in need of a longer cable

USB-A is the standard USB connection.

The USB-B type connection is small trapezium-shaped connector.

The connection to an external hard drive is USB-A (male) at the computer end and a USB-B (male) at the disk end...

I've got two external hard drives, both have the latter type of connection to the computer.
