Is it possible to run software such as Microsoft Office, Photoshop, and Sims 3 using an external/portable hard drive? If so, please tell me if there is anything special I'll have to do or if I can just install the software on the external hard drive.
If I decide to get an external hard drive, it will stay connected to my computer. The only reason I am interested in getting one is because my internal hard drive is only 30GB. I thought it would be easier, cheaper, and less time consuming to use an external hard drive than to install another hard drive or replace the one I have.

You can STORE--the software program on a External HD..and then LOAD it onto your System C:/drive..the software will Open + RUN..but it will choose your SYS. C:/drive---asking for a Folder(local folder)..as its Location::

I have a few questions. I want to put some of the information on my laptop onto an external hard drive. The laptop is a Dell, so I figure use a Dell hard drive. But I'm looking at this:

on Ebay, and all it talks about is video, photos, and songs. I mostly have files that I want to move, like Microsoft Word documents and things like that.
So, what is the best hard drive (external) to use for that? Will other hard drives that aren't Dell work with a Dell laptop, or does it have to be the same brand?
Also... I want to move the files onto the external drive and then put them on another laptop. Does it matter what brand the other laptop is?

External Hard drives are essentially bigger revisions of flash thumb drive with several times more capacity - so BRAND DOES NOT MATTER IN TERMS OF COMPATIBILITY. There are also "Sync" programs that will apply any changes you have done to the desired folders in your computer to the files in your drive so that they are identical.
