Both are windows XP, SP 2 and patched to current status.
Laptop can connect to the internet through router. Just trying to get the data from 1 PC to the other.

XP Home or XP Pro? Assuming both machines are on the same local network, you should be able to get to the machine by going to start->run and type "\\machinename\c$" where machinename is the name of your desktop pc and c is the drive on the PC you want to access. If you're running XP home, you may need to have an account on the remote PC with the same name and password as the account on your laptop. If you don't have passwords established at all, I'm pretty certain you'll need to establish one to get it to work.

Laptop hard drive?

I connected my laptop hard drive to my desktop but when I try to access the hard drive it says access is denied because it's under a username/password from my laptop how do I access the files I want to get off my laptop hard drive?
It is not asking me for the username/password for the laptop hard drive it's just denying me access because it's not the primary hard drive on the desktop and the contents were encrypted on through my laptop.

does it just say access denied? or does it specifically ask for a pass? i've run into several instances trying to access laptop harddrives on a desktop where i had to manually go into bios and set the drive parameters for cylinders/heads/sectors according to the label on the drive, in order for the desktop to recognize it correctly ... this is also true sometimes when going from one pc to another because in variations in bios and how the drive is recognized by default ... so yeah, maybe its not the problem but make sure thae drive parameters the laptop is using matches how the desktop is detecting it and if not then manually set them.
